Rooted in Integrity

Embodiment and Somatics Coaching

Have you ever:

  • Felt stuck in making decisions or find yourself second guessing your choices?
  • Believed that you did not have control over your decisions? Felt trapped and didn’t have choices?
  • Wondered about what you really value and believe?
  • Been curious about embodiment and somatics?
  • Thought about coaching, but were wary of being taken advantage of?

Well, you landed in the right place.

At Rooted in Integrity, we work together to find embodiment through somatics to:

  • Gain clarity on your deep-rooted values and beliefs
  • Explore what brings you a feeling of aliveness, joy, contentment, and how to cultivate this into embodied resilience to feel more resourced
  • Investigate patterns and actions that you take and make embodied choices of what is serving you, what you want to change and how to change it, and what you want to get more curious about

What is embodiment and somatics?

Embodiment means to be something, and moves us beyond our thinking minds, words, and intellect into knowing, being, and practicing.

Somatics is the study of the soma. The soma is about viewing humans in their wholeness: our minds, bodies, behaviors, relational patterns, feelings and sensations, and actions. Through gaining awareness of all that is going on beyond our thinking minds, we can gain more information to guide how we want to live our lives and show up in the world.

Why am I interested in somatics and what does somatics look like in practice?

By nature, I am a systems thinker and love viewing the world as entwined connections. I’ve lived a life as a human ecologist, wildlife biologist, educator, and facilitator and all of these professions allowed me to incorporate systems thinking. To me, somatics is a way to look at us individually as humans, as an entire system and not just a thinking mind. Somatics is a way to explore ourselves in new ways and the more we understand ourselves, the more equipped we are to respond and make decisions that are right for us.

What to expect in a session

Typically, I like to start and end sessions with centering and grounding as it’s critical to take some time at the beginning and end to ensure we know we are even in a body and slow down enough to gain that awareness. Then we work together to identify a goal or two to work towards over several sessions.

To support goals, we explore somatic practices including movement, stillness, and breathwork used to gain awareness, increase self-responsiveness, and gain clarity on how to transform.

We will work together to find what works for you and how much practice is reasonable in your daily life, along with what’s needed for the change you’re seeking.

Concerned that you might not be able to feel or be in your body? I’ve got you. Let’s try out an introductory session and discover what’s possible together.

To support increased accessibility, all sessions are offered virtually and there is a sliding scale fee of $55-125/ hour.

What is and what is not coaching?

Coaching is a process where clients are guided and supported through a process to facilitate and empower transformation to achieve self-determined goals. Simply put, coaches support their clients in getting clear on identifying goals and exploring what is needed to achieve those goals. Somatic coaching uses mind and body practices to support finding clarity on goals and provides a pathway of practices to be able to achieve those goals.

Coaching is not a form of therapy and cannot replace professional mental health support. Therapists can provide interventions, diagnoses, and treatments that coaches legally cannot.

Although I have gone through many years of training as both an educator and facilitator in trauma-informed approaches, I encourage anyone seeking support in healing trauma to seek out a licensed mental health professional. I love working with clients who are also working with a licensed mental health professional and are interested in adding somatic practices and seeking coaching support. Not sure? Let’s chat.

A note about the coaching industry

Coaching is an unregulated industry, which can be both good and bad. On the good side, it allows for a lot of innovation; on the bad side, there are coaches that take advantage of people. Unfortunately, there are coaches out there who make promises that are not truthful and will offer unproven methods for a high cost to gain as much profit as possible. Anyone who offers you transformation in just a few sessions is offering a false promise. It is part of why I chose the name “Rooted in Integrity”. I believe in ethics and truthfulness. I am not out to gain as much profit as possible. I am also a scientist by training and the somatics training I have gone through is based upon sound science. In particular, neuroscience is making huge strides in uncovering the scientific benefits of somatics. I, along with other coaches, will continue to speak out against unethical coaches who are profiting off of misinformation and offering unmeetable expectations.
